Involvement of the Investigation Service in World Customs Organization's and United Nations' Container Control Program will increase

Involvement of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia will be increased within mutual project of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and World Customs Organization (WCO) – Container Control Program (CCP). Abovementioned issue was discussed on a meeting at the office of Investigation Service, between Deputy-Head of the Investigation Service - Mr. Iga Zaalishvili and Coordinator of Black Sea Region at UNODC – Dr. Naida Chamilova. Parties discussed the progress of the program and the importance of involvement of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia to it.

As it was mentioned on a meeting, for the effective implementation and positive results of Container Control Program, it is necessary to involve all bodies authorized to carry out the control of customs border of the country.

UNODC representative expressed a desire to add one more employee of the Investigation Service to the CCP group situated in Poti Port, within the frames of Container Control Program, as it was done previously with the group having residence at the Customs Department of Revenue Service.

Deputy-Head of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia thanked coordinator of Black Sea region of UNODC for cooperation and noted that the Investigation Service will select the candidate and will shortly present him/her to supervisors of the program.

Four government bodies are involved in the joint project of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) – Container Control Program. Those are: Customs Department of the Revenue Service and Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, Central Criminal Police Department and Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

Scope of the Program’s activities covers the following areas: customs crossing points, customs clearance zones and free industrial zones. The aim of Container Control Program is to suppress illegal turnover of goods, detect drugs and military and dual-use products at the border, protect objects of intellectual property, collaboration with these countries participating in CCP, exchange of information, etc.
