Representatives of Carabinieri Currency anti-Counterfeiting Unit of the Republic of Italy visited Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
Deputy Chief of Carabinieri Currency anti-Counterfeiting Unit, Major Roberto Erra and senior specialized staff officer of the same Unit, Marshal Felice Tripepi are the members of the delegation. Head of Investigation Department of Investigation Service, Mr. Kakhaber Khurtsilava and other representatives of the Service have met the members of delegation of the Republic of Italy.
On an introductory meeting, parties discussed legal activities carried out towards exposing counterfeit money and taking above mentioned forged banknotes out of turnover, as well as issues on preventing, exposing and supressing above mentioned crime. Topic of discussion was also the statistical data and methods of combating against manufacturing and selling counterfeit money in EU member states. It was also mentioned on the meeting, that counterfeit money (National and International currencies) that currently is in turnover in Italy and Georgia are a threat for Banking and Credit organizations, and causes serious damage to state interests. Therefore, effective work of law-enforcing authorities towards this direction is crucially important.
Activities to be carried out in the direction of protection and security of Internal Currency Market, and effectiveness of use of modern technologies in this field, as well as the importance of coordinated activities between Currency anti-Counterfeiting Unit of the Republic of Italy and Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, was underlined on the meeting. Specific activities in the direction of future cooperation were planned during the meeting.
Meetings at Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau and National Bank of Georgia are also planned within the frames of visit of the delegation of the Republic of Italy.
