As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, through the coordinated activities with the representatives of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, exposed 2 facts of importing large amounts of undeclared various types of jewelry and gold products to the customs border of Georgia.
Investigation determined that, in the first case, a citizen of Lebanon, through the Batumi airport, from the Republic of Turkey to Georgia, brought about 11 kilograms of jewelry made of silver and pearls, hidden from customs control. In the second case, through the customs checkpoint “Sadakhlo” from the Republic of Armenia to Georgia, brought 217 grams of gold products, intended for sale, using a hidden place in the vehicle.
As a result of investigative activities, the total customs value of the seized jewelry is total of GEL 42 383.
Investigation is underway under the first and second parts of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
