As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, together with the representatives of Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia, arrested two persons on two facts of storing, transporting and sale of especially large amount of cigarettes subject to marking, without excise marks.

Investigation has determined that, in one case, in Shida-Kartli region, the accused person, was transporting 27 900 packs of cigarettes without excise marks, in specially arranged hidden compartments of a bus being under his driving. In second case, in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, the accused person was transporting 1 988 packs of cigarettes without excise in a vehicle being under his driving for the purpose of sale.

Total market value of cigarettes without excise marks, seized as a result of investigative activities is more than GEL 75 000.

Investigation is underway under the second and the third parts of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 8 years.
