As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, criminal prosecution was initiated against one person on the fact of fraudulent misappropriation of large amount of state budget funds by deceit, by manufacturing and using forged VAT declarations.

Investigation determined that the accused person, during 2020-2023 years, on behalf of the company owned by him, submitted monthly VAT declarations to the Revenue Service, which contained fictitious data of the value of goods, in which way he created a false VAT asset.

It was determined that, as a result of the mentioned criminal activities, the accused person, fraudulently misappropriated a total of GEL 639 684 from the state budget.

Investigation is underway under the third part of the article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 9 years.

Relevant measures are being carried out in order to compensate the damage caused to the state budget and to identify and expose other persons involved in the mentioned crime.
