Mr. Levan Gamkrelidze will be in charge of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia

New Head of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Levan Gamkrelidze was presented to the staff by the 1st Vice Prime-Minister, Minister of Finance, Mr. Dimitri Kumishvili. He became in charge of the Investigation Service today.

As Mr. Dimitri Kumsishvili mentioned, Mr. Levan Gamkrelidze is well familiarized with the tax law, psychology of taxpayers and has considerable experience in the field of detecting and fighting against financial crimes.

“New Head of the Investigation Service has to make important steps towards reformation of the Service, improvement of its normative base and intensify fighting against financial crime, as well as detection of crime connected with tax evasion and violation of intellectual property rights. He will have to fulfill these aims together with qualified team, people that stand guarding the economic interests of the state” – the 1st Vice Prime-Minister and Minister of Finance of Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Kumsishvili said.

Head of the Investigation Service Mr. Levan Gamkrelidze stated, that restructuring will be commenced in order to strengthen the Service and to increase the effectiveness of fighting against financial crime.

Before his appointment as Head of the Investigation Service, for the period of 2015-2017 Mr. Levan Gamkrelidze served at the position of Deputy Head of Audit Department at the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance; in 2014-2015 worked as Head of Unit at the State Security Agency under the Ministry of Internal Affairs; in 2011-2013 held position of Deputy Head and later Head of Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi Division of the Investigation Department, under the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance; in 2007-2011 worked as Senior Investigator of Tbilisi main Division of the Investigation Department, under the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance; in 2004-2006 he was employed as Senior Operative officer of Financial Police of Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Levan Gamkrelidze is a lawyer by education. He has graduated from faculty of law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

He is married, having two children.
