Under the mutual project - Container Control Program (CCP) of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and World Customs Organization (WCO) –meeting of Managing Board was held in Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia. Main topic of the meeting was discussion of the course of the program, results achieved and current challenges. Meeting was managed by Coordinator of Black Sea Region at UNODC – Dr. Naida Chamilova.
Members of the board discussed statistics of activities of working groups in the last period and once again mentioned the importance of involvement of the Investigation Service in the Program (CCP). Deputy Head of the Investigation Service Mr. Iga Zaalishvili thanked members of the board and representatives of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for support and mentioned that this cooperation is very important for all of the state authorities involved in the program in terms of positive results achieved as a result of collaboration.
Coordinator of Black Sea Region at UNODC – Dr. Naida Chamilova discussed the activities to be carried out in future. It was highlighted that visit of representatives of Donor Organizations in Georgia is planned in October. Guests will get acquainted with working groups involved in the program and will attend the practical and theoretical training courses. Members of the board spoke about existing challenges and discussed the ways of solving them.
Representatives of state authorities involved in the program (Investigation Service and Revenue Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia as well as Patrol Police Department and Central Criminal Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia) were attending the meeting.
Four state authorities are involved in mutual project -Container Control Program (CCP) of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and World Customs Organization (WCO): Investigation Service and Customs Department of Revenue Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia as well as Patrol Police Department and Central Criminal Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. Scope of the Program’s covers the following areas: customs crossing points, customs clearance zones and free industrial zones. The aim of Container Control Program is to suppress illegal turnover of goods, detect drugs and military and dual-use products at the border, protect objects of intellectual property, collaboration with the countries participating in CCP, exchange of information, etc.
