As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia exposed two facts of breach of the rules related to the movement of goods in especially large quantity across the customs border and detained two persons thereto.
The investigation revealed that in one case, the accused person, through the customs checkpoint “Kazbegi”, hidden from the customs control, smuggled gold bar and large amount of gold jewelry with estimated customs value of GEL 68 742 and in another case, the accused person by including false data in the customs declaration, through the customs checkpoint “Sarpi”, smuggled textile with customs value of GEL 73 200.
The mentioned category of crime is punishable under the second part of article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
