As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia have exposed five facts of breaching the procedure related to the movement of goods across the customs border of Georgia.
Investigation has determined that in two cases, the accused persons, imported large quantity of golden goods (238 units of golden necklaces and 2 gold bars) through the customs checkpoints of Georgia, by means of specially arranged hidden compartments in the vehicles driven by them. In other three cases, the accused persons were trying to import undeclared golden goods to Georgia, attached to their bodies, concealed under their clothes.
As a result of investigative activities totally 4 590 grams of gold and golden goods were seized having customs value of GEL 429 000.
Investigation is underway under first, fourth and fifth parts of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 8 to 11 years.
