INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED THE FACT OF UNLAWFUL USAGE OF ANOTHER PERSON’S TRADEMARK IN LARGE QUANTITIES

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, through the coordinated activities with the Kvemo Kartli District Prosecutor's Office, on the fact of unlawful use of other person’s trademark in large quantities, by prior agreement as a group, has been brought to the criminal liability two persons.

Investigation determined that the accused persons had set up sewing shops in 3 locations in the Kvemo Kartli region, where, in order to receive illegal material benefits and facilitate the selling of goods, through the illegal use of the “Adidas” and “Nike” trademarks, were producing men's and women's sportswear, which were sold at various trading facilities.

As a result of investigative activities, 641 units of illegally marked “Adidas” and “Nike” clothing, intended for sale, were seized, as well as a large amount of trademarks of the abovementioned brands intended to manufacture the counterfeit goods.

Mentioned crime is envisaged under the third part of Article 196 of the Criminal Code of Georgia and is punishable by imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
