INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED FACTS OF IMPORTING PARTICULARLY LARGE AMOUNT OF GOODS THROUGH THE CUSTOMS BORDER, IN VIOLATION OF CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

As a result of operative-search and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, five facts of transporting a particularly large amount of goods at the customs border of Georgia in violation of customs rules were exposed.

Investigation determined that the citizens of Georgia, through the customs checkpoint "Sarpi", hidden from the customs control, by attaching to the body beneath the clothing, brought to the customs border of Georgia 2 618 grams of gold jewelry products.

As a result of investigative activities, the total value of seized smuggled jewelry exceeds GEL 300 000. 

Investigation is underway under the second part of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment for 5 to 7 years.
