As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, through the coordinated activities with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, exposed three facts of importing particularly large amount of undeclared gold and silver jewelry products through the customs border of Georgia, in violation of customs regulations.
Investigation determined that, in two cases, undeclared jewelry products, made of precious metal, were smuggled across the customs border through specially arranged hiding places inside the trucks and light vehicles. In one case, the accused has brought the jewelry by attaching them to his body.
In total, 405 grams of gold and 6 528 grams of silver jewelry products seized, customs value of which is GEL 52 968.
Investigation is underway under the first and second parts of the article 214 of Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
