As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, two persons were detained on the fact of selling forged money, prior agreement as a group.

Investigation determined that the accused persons, in order to receive illegal material benefits, from the December 2022 until the July of the current year, were systematically selling forged 1-GEL coins in Shida Kartli Region. As a result of investigative activities, totally 524 units of forged 1-GEL coins were seized.

Investigation is underway under the second part of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 7 to 10 years. 

Relevant measures are being carried out in order to identify and expose person who manufactured the forged coins and other individuals involved in the abovementioned crime.
