As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, detained two persons on the fact of damaging large amount of property by deceit and manufacturing and using forged document certifying property authority, as a group and violating customs rules as an organized group.
Investigation determined that in order to receive illegal material benefits and avoid customs duties, in 2019-2021, members of the organized group, under the customs regime of transit, imported 325 units of vehicles from abroad to Georgia, which later, instead of being exported out of the country, were dismantled and sold in parts without customs clearance. Thus causing damage to the state budget in the amount of GEL 1 474 921.10.
Investigation is underway under the third part of Article 185, second part of Article 210 and second and sixth parts of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 11 to 15 years.
Relevant measures are being continued in order to identify and expose other persons involved in the abovementioned crime.
