Head of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, Mr. Soso Ramishvili, together with Deputy Heads of the Service met with the experts delegated by the EU – Mr. Thomas Vennen and Mr. Antoine Hanin.
The aim of the meeting was introduction of SAFE (Security, Accountability and Fight Against Crime Programme) elaborated by the EU to support reform of security sector in Georgia. Within the frames of the program, EU donated € 27 mln for combating against crime and corruption.
As it was mentioned on the meeting, Program foresees priority cases under the Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia. Program consists of four components, one of them is raising effectiveness of combating against corruption, money laundering and crime committed in financial-economic field in general. Within the frames of the program, support will be provided to strengthen corresponding authorities, responsible for raising effectiveness in combating against financial-economic crime.
Representatives of Investigation Service provided European experts with detailed information on activities of the Service and statistics of criminal cases investigated by the Service in the recent years. Topic of the conversation was methods of assessment of the results and ways of defining main priorities. Parties agreed that for the effective implementation of the Program, all the important issues will be discussed in details on next working meeting.
