BREACH OF THE PROCEDURE RELATED TO THE MOVEMENT OF LARGE QUANTITY OF GOODS ACROSS THE CUSTOMS BORDER

As a result of investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, through the coordinated activities carried out together with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, detained one Georgian citizen on the fact of breaching the procedure related to the movement of goods across the customs border of Georgia, in large quantities.

Investigation revealed that the accused person, in a hiding place arranged inside a cabin of a vehicle, purchased in Germany, placed various types of goods, including expensive watches, leather products, bijouterie and others.

The accused, in order to receive illegal material benefit, brought the vehicle to Georgia through Batumi port and did not declare the hidden goods.

According to the expertise act at this stage of examination, the customs value of the watches found in the car is GEL 11 745. Examination of other goods has been already scheduled.

Investigations is underway under the first part of article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
