As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the representatives of Customs Department of the Revenue Service of Georgia, exposed two facts of breaching the procedure related to the movement of large amount of goods across the customs border of Georgia and imposed criminal liability on two persons.
Investigation has determined that in one case, the accused person, on behalf of one of the companies, while moving goods from United Arab Emirates via Poti port through customs border of Georgia, by means of transit, filled in false information in customs declaration, as if he was transporting 11 250 kg of milk powder, though the expertise confirmed that in reality, the accused person was transporting protein, with total customs value of GEL 773 190.
In second case the accused person imported different types of undeclared textile goods by means of transit, through the customs checkpoint “Sarpi”, hidden from the customs control, across the customs border of Georgia in the truck driven by him. Total customs value of the goods seized as a result of investigative activities is GEL 63 988.
Crime under second part of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
