As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia exposed five facts of breaching the procedure related to the movement of especially large quantity of goods across the customs border of Georgia.
Investigation has determined that in four cases, the accused persons, imported large quantity of goods made of precious metals (4,6kg golden and 50,2kg silver goods) through the customs checkpoints “Sadakhlo”, “Sarpi” and “Ninotsminda”, by means of specially arranged hidden compartments in the vehicles driven by them. In one case, the accused person were trying to import 277 grams of undeclared golden goods through customs checkpoint “Sarpi”.
Total customs value of precious metals seized as a result of investigative activities estimates GEL 360 000.
Investigation is underway under second part of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
