INVESTIGATION SERVICE CONTINUES ACTIVE INVESTIGATIVE ACTIVITIES TO DETECT AND PREVENT FACTS OF SO-CALLED “PHARMACY DRUG ADDICTION”

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, conducted during the period of 2022, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in Tbilisi and Adjara, Samegrelo, Imereti and Kakheti regions exposed 22 unlawfully operating pharmacies, which, in violation of license and/or license conditions, without a prescription, were selling various types of psychotropic and specially controlled drugs.

During the investigation, medicine in large quantities were seized from the above-mentioned facilities.

It has been determined, that the managers of the pharmacies received income in the amount of hundreds of thousands Georgian Lari as a result of illegal entrepreneurial activities.

On the fact of illegal entrepreneurial activity 13 legal entities and 43 individuals were brought to the criminal liability, among them, three persons were convicted for committing the above-mentioned crime in the past and they have been prohibited from pharmaceutical activity by the legally binding judgment of the court.

Investigation continues under the first and second parts of Article 192 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
