INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED FACTS OF STORAGE, TRANSPORTATION AND SALE OF EXCISABLE CIGARETTES WITHOUT EXCISE MARKS, IN LARGE QUANTITIES

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out throughout Georgia, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, during the month of December of 2022, exposed 22 facts of storage, transportation and sale of excisable goods subject to marking, without excise marks, and brought to the criminal liability 14 persons, 6 of which were detained.

As a result of investigative activities, total number of 18 052 boxes of different brands of non-excised tobacco, intended for sale, were seized from the persons exposed in crime. Total market value of the seized goods exceeds GEL 90 000. 

It should be noted that during the year of 2022, the investigation was initiated on 326 facts of the above-mentioned criminal activity, 308 persons were exposed in crime, in total 587,655 packs of non-excised tobacco, having value about GEL 3 000 000  were seized. 

According to the Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, crime envisages imprisonment from 6 to 8 years.
