THE INVESTIGATION SERVICE HAS EXPOSED ONE PERSON ON TRANSPORTATION OF ESPECIALLY LARGE AMOUNT OF PRECIOUS METALS BY MEANS OF SMUGGLING

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia have exposed one person on breaching the procedure related to the movement of especially large amount of goods through the customs border of Georgia.

Investigation has determined that the accused person imported especially large amount of jewelry made from precious metals, mobile phone accessories and spare parts of vehicles, without declaration, hidden from the custom control, through customs checkpoint “Sarpi”, in the hidden compartment of truck owned by one of the transportation companies.

As a result of investigative activities more than 21 kilograms of golden and silver goods were seized, with total customs value of GEL 191 381. Total value of seized mobile phone accessories and vehicle spare parts estimates GEL 10 144.

Investigation is underway under the second part of article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
