As a result of investigational-operative activities carried out, representatives of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia arrested heads of the Financial-Budgetary and Infrastructure Service, as well as Urban Development and Architecture Service of one of the self-government municipalities of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.

Investigation has determined that the exposed persons using their authority, in order to receive illegal income, contacted the representative of one of the contractor companies carrying out the infrastructural project on the territory of the municipality.

The accused persons took money instead of protection, artificially increasing volume of works to be done on the project, as well as acceptance of accomplishment for those works that have not been fulfilled at all.

Investigation is underway under the first part of article 332 and first part of article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Currently, corresponding activities are carried out in order to identify and expose other persons involved in the above mentioned crime.
