INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE OF THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE OF GEORGIA CONTINUES ACTIVE INVESTIGATIVE ACTIVITIES IN ORDER TO DETECT THE SO-CALLED "PSYCHOTROPIC PHARMACIES"

As a result of the complex measures carried out by the employees of the Investigative Service in the period of 2023, in Tbilisi, in the regions of Adjara, Samegrelo, Imereti and Kakheti, number of pharmacies operating in violation of the law were identified, which, in violation of the relevant license and license conditions, were selling psychotropic and special medicines of various names subject to control without a prescription.

As a result of investigative activities, a large amount of psychotropic drugs, the money received from their sale, computer equipment containing information and documentation were seized.

The heads of the pharmacies, as well as employees involved in the criminal activity, were brought to the criminal liability as accused on the facts of illegal entrepreneurial activity.

In total, criminal prosecution was carried out against 58 individuals and 15 legal entities. According to the judgments of the court, some of them were prohibited from pharmaceutical activities for a certain period of time.

This activity is determined under the Article 192 of the Criminal Code of Georgia and is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.

Appropriate measures are being taken to identify and expose the persons involved in the said crime.
