As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, on the fact of manufacturing and selling forged money as a group, detained 4 persons, 3 of which have been imprisoned.

Investigation revealed, that the accused persons, in order to receive illegal material benefits, using computer equipment, manufactured counterfeit 50 and 100 GEL banknotes of the National Bank of Georgia in the Imereti region. Banknotes were later taken and used at gas stations and trade networks located in Kutaisi.

At this stage of the investigation, it has been determined that a total of GEL 550 counterfeit banknotes have been sold by the accused.

Investigation is underway under the second part of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 7 to 10 years.
