INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED FOUR FACTS OF SMUGGLING OF GOLD

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the representatives of Customs Department of the Revenue Service, exposed four facts of breaching the procedure related to the movement of goods across the customs border of Georgia.

 

Investigation has determined that in three cases, the exposed persons through the customs checkpoint “Sarpi” were trying to import golden goods without declaration, hidden from the customs control, across the customs border of Georgia. In one case, the accused person through the customs checkpoint “Vale”, by means of specially arranged hidden compartments in the vehicle driven by him, was trying to import especially large quantity of golden goods.

 

As a result of investigative activities, totally 11.2 kg of golden goods were seized having customs value of more than GEL 670 000.

 

Investigation is underway under the first and second parts of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
