As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, arrested Senior Officer of Eastern Division of Monitoring Division of the Monitoring Department at the LEPL Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on the fact of bribery.

Investigation determined that the accused person, whose one of the functions was to stop means of transportation, inspect them visually and check the accompanying documentation of the goods to detect and eliminate the facts of transportation of goods without documentation, in order to receive illegal income. While performing his work duties, the abovementioned officer promised his protection to one citizen. The accused person provided the person with the information on some districts of Tbilisi: in which period of a day the employees of the Monitoring Department were not performing control, thus allowing the citizen to transport the goods without any problem and without appropriate documentation.

In return for this assistance, the accused person took GEL 500 as a bribe from the citizen.

Investigation is underway, under the first part of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 9 years.
