Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia exposed three facts of smuggling of precious metal goods

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service in coordination with representatives of the Customs Department of Revenue Service of Georgia, exposed three facts of breaching the procedure related with movement of especially large amount of goods across the customs border of Georgia.

 

Investigation determined that in one case, the accused person has imported 232 grams of undeclared golden goods to Georgia, in a specially arranged compartment of a car driven by him, through the customs checkpoint “Sarpi”.

 

In other two cases, citizens were trying to import golden and silver goods through the customs border of Georgia, covertly attached to their bodies under their clothes, and in secret compartments arranged specially in their hand luggage.

 

As a result of investigative activities, approximately 8 kg of silver goods and 480 gr of golden goods were seized, with total customs value exceeding GEL 62 000.

 

Investigation is underway under article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
