Abuse of official power

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out jointly with the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal affairs, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia detained three persons on the fact of influence peddling and abuse of official powers.

Investigation revealed that the accused persons contacted a citizen being under conditional sentence who had limited rights on crossing the state border and assured this person, that in exchange for certain amount of money, they could illicitly make influence on a state border patrol-inspector, which on his turn, would allow this person to freely cross the state border during his term of fulfilment of his obligation.

With abovementioned criminal intent, accused persons took USD 5000 from the citizen. Later, as a result of abuse of official powers by patrol-inspector of the Main Division of Border Management and Coordination under Patrol Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the person mentioned above illegally crossed the state border of Georgia.

Investigation is underway under the second part of article 3391 and the first part of article 332 of Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisage imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
