Investigation Service exposed the fact of transportation of cigarettes without excise marks

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with representatives of the Customs Department of Revenue Service of Georgia, exposed the fact of transportation of especially large quantity of cigarettes without excise marks, subject to marking.

 

Investigation determined that, citizen of Azerbaijan was trying to export undeclared cigarettes without excise marks to Russian Federation, through the customs checkpoint “Kazbegi”, in the vehicle under his. According to the official documents, vehicle had to transport 21 tons of grapes, but inspection showed that especially large amount (90 180 packs) of foreign-produced cigarettes, without excise marks had been transported by means of the vehicle.

 

Total market value of the cigarettes seized as a result of investigative activities equals GEL 234 468.

 

Investigation is underway under the third part of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 8 years.
