In July and August 2018, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia carried out wide range of operations in order to detect and expose illegally operating sawmills, illegal obtainers of lumber and merchants selling lumber by means of forged documents.
As a result of activities carried out, Investigation Service exposed 23 sawmills operating without obligatory registration.
On the basis of evidences obtained as a result of investigative activities, criminal liabilities were imposed on 7 entrepreneurs on the facts of violation of the sawmills registration requirements.
On this stage, investigative activities are in intensively proceeding. Different types of expertise are being carried out towards other unregistered sawmills, exposed within the frames of the above mentioned activities.
Investigation is underway under the Article 2871 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
