THE INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED THREE FACTS OF BREACHING THE PROCEDURE RELATED TO THE MOVEMENT OF GOODS ACROSS THE CUSTOMS BORDER

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out together with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has exposed three facts of breaching the procedure related to the movement of goods across the customs border. Three persons were accused and criminal liability was imposed on them.


Investigation has determined that in one case the accused person with the use of secret compartment in a vehicle, illegally imported 871 units of diamonds to Georgia through the customs checkpoint "Sadakhlo". In other two cases the accused persons were trying to import to Georgia 900 grams of gold products subject to declaration, with violation of custom rules, through customs checkpoint “Sarpi”.

 

Total customs value of gemstones and gold products seized is GEL 61 171.

 

Investigation is underway under the first part of article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
