INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED FACT OF IMPORTING PARTICULARLY LARGE AMOUNT OF GOODS THROUGH THE CASTOMS BORDER, IN VIOLATION OF CASTOMS REGULATION

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the representatives of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, exposed fact of importing particularly large amount of goods through the customs border of Georgia in violation of customs regulations by a group with a prior agreement, for which criminal prosecution was started against two persons.

Investigation determined that the accused persons, through the customs checkpoint "Sarpi", hidden from the customs control, by hiding in various household items, brought to the customs border 4 447 grams of gold jewelry products, total customs value of which is GEL 577 497.

Investigation is underway under the fifth part of article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 8 to 11 years.
