INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED FACT OF ATTEMPT TO EXPORT ESPECIALLY LARGE AMOUNT OF DRUGS BY MEANS OF FALSE CUSTOMS DOCUMENTS

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, exposed a fact of attempt to export especially large amount of drugs across the customs border of Georgia by means of filling in false information in customs documents.

Investigation determined that on August 2, 2018, the company selling drugs, under customs regime, have presented to the Customs, 1524 flacons of “Emoclot”, medication designated for treatment of children with genetic disease – hemophilia, with total value of USD 335 280,  for the purpose of exporting them from Georgia to the Central Asia, particularly in Uzbekistan.

Investigation also determined that doses of medication indicated in the invoice submitted to the Customs were false (instead of 1000/10ml it was 500/10ml) besides this, because of the fact that registration of packaging of the same medication in importing country is different, the exporting company has repacked it and stamped different etiquettes on it in artisan way, without the permission of the official producer. At the same time, on part of etiquettes validity date was changed and instead of 2019, it was shown as 2022. Serial number used to identify the drugs was also changed on the etiquette.

Currently corresponding expertises are proceeding in order to identify consistence and validity of the drugs.

Investigation is underway under the second part of article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 4 to 7 years.
