As a result of operative-search and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, two facts of transporting a particularly large amount of goods at the customs border of Georgia in violation of customs rules were exposed, for which two persons were detained.
The investigation determined that in one case, the accused, through the customs checkpoint "Sarpi", with a special place arranged in the cabin of his car, hidden from the customs control, transported 706 grams of gold jewelry to the customs border of Georgia and in the second case, the accused also 507 grams of undeclared gold products were brought in with a hiding place in the car. The total value of seized jewelry exceeds GEL 130 000.
The investigation is underway under the second part of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment for 5 to 7 years.
