As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia detained one person on the fact of misappropriation of someone else's property by manufacturing and using counterfeit coins.

Investigation determined that the accused person, in order to receive illegal material benefit, artificially manufactured 563 units of forged coins, with the same shape and size as 1-GEL coin, which was transferred to the account of accused’s wife using quick pay machines, from where it was subsequently withdrawn.

The accused was detained directly while committing a crime. As a result of his private search and search of his house, artificially made 30 coins and equipment for making these coins were seized.

Investigation is being continued under the second part of Article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 4 to 7 years.
