Investigation Service exposed seven persons on the fact of creating and using forged VAT assets

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, exposed two criminal groups in Samegrelo Region and initiated criminal prosecution against seven persons on the fact of damaging the state budget by deceit by manufacturing and using forged tax documents, as a group.

Investigation determined that the accused persons, in order to receive illegal material benefits, on behalf of the companies under their management, in prior agreement, issued forged tax invoices amongst each other, as if they were providing construction services and delivering repair materials, thus created counterfeit VAT assets, which were later used to cover tax liabilities.

As a result of the criminal activities of the accused, the state budget suffered a total of GEL 214 730 damage, which has been fully compensated at this stage of investigation.

Investigation is underway under the Articles 210 and 185 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 4 to 7 years
