Investigation Service exposed the fact of smuggling and storage and transportation of non-excised goods

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, two foreign citizens were detained on the fact of transporting of goods in particularly large quantities across the customs border of Georgia in violation of customs regulations, by prior agreement as a group, as well as for the storage and transportation of excisable goods subject to marking, without excise marks.

Investigation determined that the accused persons, by entering false data in the customs declaration, through the customs checkpoint „Kazbegi“, brought to the customs border of Georgia a particularly large amount of undeclared, non-excised alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and other goods by a truck vehicle. Those goods were later transferred into a vehicle owned by them for the purpose of further transportation and sale, at that time they were exposed.

The total value of the goods seized as a result of investigative activities exceeds GEL 230 000.

Investigation is underway under the fifth part of Article 214 and the third part of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisage imprisonment from 8 to 11 years.
