As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, two person were arrested, operating by preliminary agreement as a group, transporting large amount of ethyl alcohol with violation of custom rules.
According to the investigation it was ascertained that on July 16, 2017, approximately 28,000 liters of ethyl spirits were imported in Georgia by the mentioned persons. For the purpose of avoiding the respective customs duties and taxes set by the state, defendants brought the imported goods into the re-export regime. Instead of re-exporting, the imported alcohol was transferred into the tanks placed in one of the wine factories for later illegal realization.
Investigation Service representatives seized 28,000 liters of ethyl alcohol imported with violation of custom rules and the vehicle used for transporting it. According to the forensic examination, the market value of the illegal imported goods estimates GEL 347 388.
Investigation is underway under the article 214, part 5 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 8 to 11 years.
