REPRESENTATIVES OF INVESTIGATION SERVICE EXPOSED FOREIGN CITIZEN ON THE FACT OF UNLAWFUL USE OF ANOTHER PERSON’S TRADEMARK

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia foreign citizen has been brought to the criminal liability on the fact of unlawful use of another person’s trademark.

Investigation determined that the accused person had set up a factory in Tbilisi, where he, applied the 'Nike' trademark to cheap sport shoes imported by him from abroad through hired persons and then sold them.

As a result of investigative activities, from the factory and shop owned by the accused, more than 28 000 units of illegally marked “Nike” sports shoes and 61 563 units of "Nike" logos intended for sale, were seized.

Investigation is underway under the first part of Article 196 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment up to 2 years.
