Delegation of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, led by the head of the Service – Soso Ramishvili, visited Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the United States of America. Within the scope of International Visitors’ Program (IVP) Visit of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the delegation was acquainted with the specific areas of activity of the criminal investigation unit. The parties, taking into account the mandate of the Investigation Service, shared successful experience with each other. Bilateral working meetings were held with the Acting Executive Director of Global operations and Financial Crimes and Policy – Kareem Carter, along with other experts working in the field. Should be underlined importance of the role of the Embassy of Georgia in the United States of America during the visit.
The parties discussed the specifics of financial crimes, modern methods of detecting the facts of violation of tax and customs legislation, methods of investigation, crime suppression and prevention.
Members of the delegation and American experts shared their experiences on important matters, such as: tax evasion, undocumented VAT returns and illegal circulation of excise goods, covert investigative activities, search and seizure of assets, investigation of crimes related to intellectual property, investigation related to financial pyramids etc.
Within the framework of the visit, the parties agreed to further deepen the cooperation between the two agencies. For the future, specific events have also been planned, in order to share experience in fighting against crimes committed in the financial and economic field.
