As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office of the West Georgia, four individuals were detained on the fact of misappropriation of a large amount of state funds by deceit, assisting in fraud and manufacturing and selling forged official documents.

Investigation determined that detained persons, heads of Construction Company №1 LLC, won a tender announced in 2020 by Georgian Technical University, which envisaged full rehabilitation of professional college of Technical University located in Samtredia municipality. Total value of tender amounted to GEL 6 632 130.

Company received payment in the amount of GEL 3 432 520 for the performed work, however work was not fully completed and contract was terminated.

Investigation also determined that representatives of construction company, with the assistance of employees from the inspection agency, fraudulently misappropriated GEL 661 163 allocated for the project by preparing and using forged documentation.

Investigation is underway under part 3 of Article 180, parts 3 of Articles 25-180 and part 2 of Article 362 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which as a type of sentence, envisage imprisonment from six to nine years.

Investigation Service is carrying out intensive investigative activities to identify other possible participants in the abovementioned crime and expose criminal scheme. Any facts of causing damage to the state budget will be met with strict response.
