BRIEFING AT INVESTIGATION SERVICE OF THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE

Representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia have exposed corruption facts in two different municipalities, in connection with which three individuals have been detained, including two representatives of the municipal mayor.
 
In the first case, corruption-related offense was exposed in Adigeni Municipality. Representative of the Mayor in Zanavi administrative unit was detained for taking a large amount of bribe, while one citizen was detained for assisting in the bribery.
 
Investigation determined that public servant, through an intermediary, demanded and took USD 10 000 as a bribe. In exchange, the official promised patronage in the process of setting up a camping site on state-owned land plots. Investigation into this fact is being investigated under Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which as a type of sentence, envisages imprisonment from 7 to 11 years.
 
Second fact of corruption was exposed in Municipality of Tsalka, where the representative of the Mayor in Sameba administrative unit was detained on charges of accepting a bribe.
 
Investigation determined that public servant used his official authority and duties to issue forged certificates to citizens. In this case, accused took GEL 1 000 as a bribe in exchange for the manufacture and sale of forged documents regarding the origin of 20 tons of potatoes.
 
Public official was detained while committing the crime. In this case, sentence for accepting a bribe envisages imprisonment from 6 to 9 years.
 
In both cases, funds were seized as evidence.
 
We address all public officials who have not yet realized that corruption will not be unpunished in our country: approach your assigned duties with maximum responsibility and refrain from such illegal activities.
