INVESTIGATION SERVICE OF THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE HAS DETAINED TWO INDIVIDUALS ON THE FACT OF TRANSPORTING PARTICULARLY LARGE AMOUNT OF UNDECLARED GOODS

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, detained two individuals on the fact of transporting particularly large amount of undeclared goods through the customs border of Georgia.

Investigation determined that, by prior agreement, the group members, on behalf of one of the companies, entered false data into the customs declaration and declared customs value of goods at GEL 48 502 instead of GEL 536 028 GEL. Based on the abovementioned declaration, various types of goods were imported from Turkey to Georgia by truck.

Based on operative information, a vehicle inspection exposed that, instead of most of the goods declared in the customs declaration, undeclared goods with a customs value of GEL 536 028 were found, including perfumes, hygiene products, room air fresheners, plumbing supplies, energy drinks, confectionery and other types of products.

Investigation is underway under Article 214, Part 5, Subparagraph “d” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 8 to 11 years.

Investigation with regard to the case is ongoing to identify other members of the criminal group and additional episodes of the crime.
