As a result of investigative activities, representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia detained three individuals on December 3, 2025, on the fact of circumventing customs procedures and secretly disposing of a particularly large amount of oil at customs border of Georgia, by an organized group.
Investigation determined, that management of Batumi Oil Terminal LLC disposed more than 10 000 tons of undeclared crude oil, having value of more than 15 000 000 GEL, in the terminal’s reservoirs, circumventing customs procedures and secretly disposing of it.
Accused persons, in order to disguise fact of disposing of a particularly large amount of high-quality petroleum products, placed unusable, contaminated oil waste in the tanks of customs terminal.
Intensive investigative activities are continuing in the case for identifying other members of the criminal group, determining amount of damage caused to the state budget and exposing facts of further disposal of smuggled oil.
Investigation is underway under parts two and six of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which as a type of sentence, provides imprisonment for a term of eleven to fifteen years.
